On top of all, we will discuss the modules of the IELTS and then types of an IELTS test.

There are four modules of an IELTS test: IELTS Listening, IELTS Reading, IELTS Writing and IELTS Speaking. In simple words, we can break it down into two major classifications:

IELTS Listening and IELTS Reading: Receptive skills

Let’s dive deep into this classification, IELTS Listening and IELTS Reading require receptive skills because you’re at receiving end. The information is being provided to you during an IELTS Listening and IELTS Reading tests and you have to pick correct answers of that given information.

As all of us know that there are so many tips and tricks that people discuss to get a good band score in IELTS Listening and IELTS Reading tests. The question here is whether one can get a good band score in IELTS Listening and Reading tests by using the tips and tricks.

Well, the simplest answer is yes, but to some extent. IELTS Listening and Reading tests have been designed in such a way that it assesses the level of listening and reading skills of the candidates. Which means that you cannot dodge the test merely by using different IELTS tips and tricks. You must remember that this is an international language testing system that has been accepted by all the institutions all over the globe. So, how would you believe that it will give you a good band score by using IELTS tips and tricks and without having a good level of English?

This is true that IELTS tips and tricks work to some extent; for instance, if you are after a band score of 5.5 to 6, there are chances that you can get that milestone by using IELTS tips and tricks. But, if your target is above 6.5 bands, you cannot use IELTS tips and tricks alone to go over 6.5 bands. You must have to improve IELTS Listening and Reading skills to jump over 6.5 bands. Since this article is only about avoiding the mistakes to understand an IELTS exam, we will discuss in detail about IELTS tips and tricks in Listening and Reading posts in the upcoming articles.

IELTS Writing and IELTS Speaking: Productive Skills

IELTS Writing and IELTS Speaking tests are entirely different from IELTS Listening and reading. IELTS Writing and IELTS Speaking tests require good productive skills. Productive skills are a sort of skills where someone produces the content. In IELTS writing and speaking tests, you will be given a situation and you have to produce your content to cover that situation.

Whether IELTS tips and tricks work in Writing and Speaking?

The simplest answer is No. Unlike IELTS listening and reading, IELTS Writing and speaking tests require a different sort of skills and approach to get a good band score. There are no IELTS, trips and tricks that will work in your IELTS writing and speaking tests. However, some sort of IELTS techniques may work. For instance, some coaches and training institutions give a pre-written format for writing tests to cram that format and apply it into the real IELTS exam. This may work for them who are not having a good command of English.

Using a pre-written format will not give you a good IELTS band score. In both IELTS Speaking and writing tests no technique alone would be able to get you over 7 bands. You must have to improve your productive skills to get a good band score over 7.

Proper Training and Coaching for IELTS Speaking and Writing

As we know, we have to improve productive skills to get a good band score in writing and speaking, therefore, candidates need proper training and coaching for IELTS preparation for writing and speaking. Candidates cannot practice on their own, they need someone to assess their writings and speaking who give them feedback and highlight the improvement areas.

Practising IELTS Listening and reading tests can improve your receptive skills without any feedback; but, for IELTS speaking and writing,  practising alone cannot improve your productive skills unless you get some sort of feedback and assessment. Candidates who are after 7 each or 7.5 each, they usually perform well in IELTS Listening and Reading, but they miss 7 or 7.5 either in IELTS speaking or writing, sometimes both of them. The primary reason for missing out in speaking and writing is that they do not get the professional assessment and feedback, which eventually do not improve their productive skills.

Exaggeration about IELTS courses

There are so many IELTS courses available that claim that they give tips, tricks and techniques that will give you a higher band score and some trainers and institutions give guarantees about it, Some offer IELTS online classes and online IELTS course materials. However, they rarely focus on improving the productive skills of the candidates. They do not help candidates to improve their productive skills for IELTS Speaking and writing; instead, they keep focusing on tips and tricks. This is the reason many candidates miss the required bands either in IELTS writing or speaking.

Hence, the crux of the discussion is that you should understand the IELTS testing mechanism appropriately so that you can have a very good IELTS preparation to get a good band score. Do not stick with IELTS techniques, tips and tricks alone; you have to improve your receptive and productive skills to get a band score well over 7. IELTS techniques, tips and tricks are for those candidates who are unable to get 5.5 or 6 bands. But, if you are after 7 plus bands, then you must have to improve your English skills along with techniques, tips and tricks.
